ELKTON, MD – January 28, 2025 – Jeffrey Allen Lander, 41, of Elkton, MD, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend. The sentencing took place in the Circuit Court of Cecil County following Lander’s conviction by a jury on November 22, 2024. He was found guilty of involuntary (grossly negligent) manslaughter and reckless endangerment but was acquitted of second-degree murder and assault.

The incident occurred on January 24, 2024, around 4:40 p.m., when Cecil County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency responders were called to 743 Bell Manor Road in Conowingo. The report indicated that a woman had been accidentally shot with a hunting crossbow. When authorities arrived, they found Lander at the scene along with his girlfriend, 45-year-old Judy Elizabeth Gee, who had a crossbow arrow lodged in her back. Although she was conscious, she was unable to give a statement to officers. Due to the weather and location, she was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, the closest trauma center.
