Delaware State Fair Faces Criticism Over High Fees for Quillen Arena Rentals and Ice Rink Closure.
Harrington, DE — January 23, 2025
The Delaware State Fair is facing growing scrutiny after recent reports about steep fees for renting the Quillen Arena and rumors circulating about the closure of its ice rink to make way for another event space at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The Quillen Arena, a popular venue known for hosting a variety of events throughout the year, including concerts, rodeos, and sports competitions, has become the subject of concern for many local groups and event planners. Sources within the fairgrounds have indicated that rental prices for the arena have increased significantly, with some clients reporting fees that are much higher than expected.
For smaller community organizations and local businesses, the rising cost of renting the space has caused a ripple effect, as it puts many events out of financial reach. The closure of the Ice Rink was announced today and has blindsided most everyone.
